Timothy Brian Hillyer

Timothy Brian Hillyer, 20 of Glen Rock, NJ passed away on Wednesday Oct.2,2024 from a tragic swimming accident in Panama City, FL.   

Raised in Glen Rock,  Tim graduated from Glen Rock High School in 2022. He was continually active for the 4 years he was there. He excelled in the classroom and was a member of the National Honor Society. He enjoyed sports and played soccer, baseball and ran track. He had a passion for the arts and performed in school musicals as well as being a member of the chamber and concert choirs. He ran charity 5Ks and co-chaired the Glen Rock High School Relay for Life Team, dedicating his energy and time to honoring loved ones who had bravely fought against cancer. During the summers, he kept active working for the Glen Rock Community pool.

Tim was attending Georgia Tech where he studied biomedical engineering with a focus on designing medical devices. He made friends quickly at “Wreck Camp” and became a brother at the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity which he described as family. 

Though his time with us was too brief he lived a life distinguished by his enthusiasm and sense of adventure. His decision to be an organ donor was consistent with his generosity of spirit and allowed him to help save many lives. Tim prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same - go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you.

Cherished son of John and Carrie (nee Evans) Hillyer. Devoted brother of Craig Hillyer. Beloved grandson of Joyce and Bruce Hillyer, and Joan Evans and the late James Evans. Dear nephew of Michael Hillyer, Christa Bell and her husband Bob, and the late Tammy Pearson.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Oct. 12, 2024 from 2-6pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home,  257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A funeral service is planned for Sunday Oct.13, 2024 at 11am at the funeral home and will be Live Streamed for those unable to attend. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the start of the service from 10am -11am.
