Vincent A. Ciavarra, MD age 89, of Wyckoff, passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 17, 2021 with his loving family at his side. He was born and raised in Newark, NJ, the son of Alexander and Mary Ciavarra. When Vincent began kindergarten, he met many new friends but little did he know that later in life, one of those classmates, Mary Lou would become his best friend. Their love for each other blossomed and they married in 1966. Fifty years ago, Vincent and Mary Lou moved to Wyckoff, NJ where they raised their two daughters. Vincent received his BS Degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and continued his education to receive his Medical Degree from The Howard University School of Medicine also in Washington, D.C. Vincent became a licensed physician in 1959 in both the States of New Jersey and New York, specializing in Urology. He completed his residency in Surgery at Presbyterian Hospital, Newark, NJ and a residency in Urology at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bronx, NY. For a brief period, he concurrently worked as a Clinical Assistant in Urology at Pascack Valley Hospital and Hackensack Hospital before beginning a 33 year career as Chief Urologist with the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bronx, NY, retiring in 2000. Following his retirement from the Veteran Administration, Vincent became an Associate Professor at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, NY teaching over 100 interns until 2010. Vincent was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth RC Church for fifty years. He spent much of his time during the last 5 years taking lessons and practicing the piano daily. Vincent is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Ciavarra of Wyckoff; his two devoted daughters; Lea Ciavarra of Brooklyn, NY and Gina Ciavarra of Manhattan, NY; and his granddaughter, Alexa Ciavarra, who held a special place in her Pop-Pop’s heart. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Pallante of Ocean, NJ. Vincent always had a smile on his face and brought joy to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Visiting will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. The interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin lakes, NJ.
