William “Bill” Peters, age 93, of Waldwick, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 3, following complications from a fall at home.
Bill was born to William and Marie Peters and graduated from Eastern Academy.
He owned a butcher shop and grocery store in Paterson, New Jersey, and then went on to be a chemical operator for Crompton and Knowles in Newark, New Jersey.
Bill served in the United States Army in Austria during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955.
He was compassionate, loving, humorous and devoted to his family. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Some of his fondest memories with them occurred in Ocean City, New Jersey, where they have vacationed together for nearly 30 years.
Bill was a faithful and active member of Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff, where he served as both a deacon and elder. Bill was a reassuring presence and encouragement to all those whom he faithfully visited each and every day, and he was a blessing to all who knew him. In retirement, he was a longtime volunteer at Christian Health.
Bill married the love of his life, Jo on May 2,1958, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Paterson. Bill and Jo’s marriage was blessed with three children: Dr. Kenneth Peters, Linda Carey, and Bruce Peters.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 67 years, Jo Peters; his loving children, Dr. Kenneth and Allyce Peters of Granbury, Texas; Linda and Eric Carey of Mahwah, New Jersey; and Bruce and Renee Peters of Ramsey, New Jersey. Also surviving are his adored grandchildren, Drew and Leslie Peters; Aimee and Chris Tolleson; Laura and Ryan Kelly; Dana Carey; Ryan Carey; Zachary Peters; Emily Peters; and Michael Peters; and great-grandchildren, Parker, Evie, and Rosie.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, New Jersey on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 3 – 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Ave., Wyckoff, New Jersey on Monday, December 8 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
